AppIn the early 1980s, Kenny Scharf began transforming everyday household electronics—TVs, telephones, vacuums, and boomboxes—into brightly colored sculptural artworks. These pieces were part of his “Customized Objects” series, where he hand-painted found appliances with acrylic paint, plastic jewels, buttons, and cartoon imagery.

The works blur the line between fine art, pop culture, and consumer electronics, reflecting the vibrant energy of the 1980s East Village art scene alongside artists like Keith Haring and Jean-Michel Basquiat.

This T-shirt features a one-color screen print of Scharf’s boombox artwork Untitled (1985), capturing the playful collision of music, machines, and imagination that defines his work. A tribute to the sound, style, and creative spirit of downtown New York in the 1980s.
